Inside: Scope and Sequence for Spanish 1-Spanish 4 using novels and comprehensible input curriculum without a textbook. Mis Clases Locas updated curriculum for 2019-2020
**It would be helpful to read this post first - How I Create a CI Curriculum for Spanish 1-4.
OK now are you ready for next year's tentative curriculum!?! Click on the links for previous blog post explaining the units or resources to make your life easier. This post has now been updated as well. If you are interested in getting many of the resources I use, I would suggest starting with Spanish 1 Mega Bundle & Mega Bundle Spanish 2 or 3, as well as clicking the links below.
Year 8 - 2019-2020 plan
It is important to note that I have started moving quicker to keep interest, such as reading some books in the style of 1 novel 1 week. This is why it might seem like I have more content listed than others. I also pick and choose from SOMOS units, with them typically just lasting 1 week (Intro vocab, story, and get right into the culture of unit). Please remember this is all subject to change and I will adjust as needed.
Spanish 1 19-20
Spanish 1 Mega Bundle (includes many resources listed below)
This particular group of Spanish 1 had one quarter of Exploratory Spanish (which included Super 7 unit, & SOMOS units 1-3), so they will be starting slightly ahead of where I would normally start in Spanish 1.

**This class is going to be blended with a mix of independent study and those actually in class due to scheduling problems, so the plan is much looser depending on their future interests. With the group I have, we may move VERY fast through some of my planned units. I think it will be more of a college class set up with a possible 20% time for those actually in class for choice reading in Spanish, watching a choice show, investigating something related to future job in Spanish etc.
Quarter 1
- Super 7 Future Unit (new)
- (During Hispanic Heritage Month - song of the day)
- 48 hours novel unit (new)
- Pachamama & Environment
- Cajas de Cartón- short story unit
- with Postville Raid
Quarter 2
- Literature Circles - full novels
- Conditional - FSW
- Sr. Wooly Unit - Encerada en la escuela

Quarter 4
(During March - March Madness Song Bracket)
- La Calaca Alegre - novel unit

- Identidad unit is a great way to end Senior year :)
If you want to see how I have evolved & changed here was my tentative plan last year

**This class was very small and did not always meet due to scheduling problems, so the plan was much looser and more of a blended learning with online ecourses and Google Classroom. With the group I have, we moved VERY fast through some of my planned units and ended up doing about two books per quarter. I added notes about some changes we did & will hopefully blog about this blended class soon.

- Cajas de Cartón- short story unit with Postville Raid
- **We actually switched out this unit & they did Vidas Impactantes as an ecourse

Thank you! I can't wait to check this out more...super helpful! :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you for everything you share! It's a great resource as I delve deeper into my CI practice. Do you read El Capibara con Botas after only doing the Super 7 Unit? Or is it somewhere in between the Somos 1-5 units?
ReplyDeleteP.S. Happy Birthday!!
ReplyDeleteDo you have anymore details for the Identidad unit mentioned at the end of quarter 4 for Spanish 4? What resources do you use for that?
ReplyDeleteThis is so helpful. I have purchased a lot of your resources and this gives me a good outline for when to use them. Thank you so much!
ReplyDeleteDid you make a teachers guide for "Silbon"?
ReplyDeleteThanks! This is awesome. One question, we are on a semester block schedule at my school, so our "quarters" are only 4.5 weeks long, but we see our students for 90 min every day. I teach level 1, so how would you adjust this pacing for a schedule like that?
ReplyDeleteI would honestly pace the same. The contact hours should be similar.
DeleteHow do you teach a novel in a week? What does your daily lesson plan look like for that?
ReplyDeleteread this post! https://misclaseslocas.blogspot.com/2018/11/reading-novel-in-one-week-in-spanish.html
DeleteHi Allison. Thank you for sharing such wonderful resources. I am looking over your scope and sequence for Spanish 1 and I noticed that for quarter 3, you have Somos 1 Unit 19 Biblioburro. I am concerned that this unit might be a bit difficult for the students. What are you thoughts and reasoning for placing Biblioburro in the 3rd quarter of Spanish 1? Again, thank you for all that you do.

Norma,
We do this unit to introduce the biblioburo (which is a big part of the novel Peter va a Colombia). We do not do everything in the unit, but iot is a good intro to help them understand the book!
