For the target structures I do teach the English right away, as recomended. I do a lot of charades as my class calls it with big gestures. Sometimes you have to throw in the translation if they are not catching on, or otherwise it just seems like a waste of time.
I am also the only Spanish teacher so I am all for online collaboration!Mis Clases Locashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06684779050757068252noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9883927338788093.post-46400060586764806332014-10-29T16:56:27.414-05:002014-10-29T16:56:27.414-05:00Hi Allison,

I'm in my fifth year teaching and always used a textbook but wasn't sure how to make it comprehensible enough. Then I decided to scrap the textbook and try an experiment with my eighth graders (level 1A) and I bought Martina's units. I'm a unit behind you, though, and still find myself reverting to English a ton. I think I've been relying too much on translation and I'm not sure how to break away from that. How have you done it? Just looking for any tips or pointers you could give. I'm the only Spanish teacher at my school and I think I need to start collaborating more online!
Thanks for any advice you can give! I'll probably bother you a little more as I go along :)
And of course, thanks for your wonderful blog. I like reading your reflections. I, too, struggle with the decision to turn on subtitles! nonsensicalmadrigalhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14052737917107054926noreply@blogger.com
